North Shore table tennis coach earns viaSport provincial award – North Shore News (nsnews.com)
I have been playing Table Tennis since I was 8 years old. I grew up as one of the junior table tennis national team players of Slovakia, high performance training was my life until my late 20s. The sport is my passion and my job that I absolutely love. My commitment is shared with North Vancouver Physical Literacy for Community organizations NVPL4C round table that North Shore Table Tennis Club has partnered with in last 2 years.
I’m a passionate promoter of the sport of Table Tennis. I co-founded North Shore Table Tennis Club 6 years ago with my partner Claudine Gunn which became the fastest growing club in BC. Based in North Vancouver we offer in school programs all over lower mainland. Over the past six years, several of the young athletes I have coached have gone on to compete Provincially and Nationally. Several of the senior players I coach have gone from not winning any medals at first 55+ BC senior games to taking home Silver and Golds at the last several games.
I made a big step inside Table Tennis Canada’s National Coaching Program and now am part of Canadian team of Master coach developers in table tennis. In addition to my ongoing coaching duties, I have also been assigned by TTCAN Para Committee Manager to coach a Para Table Tennis national team athlete on a one-on-one basis as part of the Para TT National Team Program. I have been selected as TTCAN PARA committee board member in 2020.
I was amongst only 12 coaches selected from around the World to attend a special High Performance coaching course jointly staged by the International Table Tennis Federation and the Swedish TTA in Sweden, Halmstad in December 2019.
My table tennis contributions and passion for coaching have been noticed. And it has clearly made a lasting impression on those I coach and my commitment and passion for sport in British Columbia. To recognize my dedication to coaching, I also received a cheque for $250, which will help me to continue my development through coach education.
Via Sport will be in touch again next week Tuesday to arrange a private Zoom event for me to receive this award, share this honour with those who nominated me and those who have been influential in my coaching career. Via Sport announced the winners publicly but will also do with a video of each of the winners and their pathway to coaching.
I coach many table tennis programs in our club, from kids to youth, seniors classes, wheelchair table tennis classes, Happy Hands Adapted Table Tennis program to Women and girls in TT programs. Table tennis has numerous benefits for the mind, body and soul. Here are just a few of them
